I don’t like social media in its current state and I recently decided to quit using it because I was the one who felt I was being used. I realize there are prices to pay for not playing, but I have bread and meat. I’m good.
Why do we need social media? Rarely anyone goes to it for music anymore according to my numbers. Most of my clicks come from other places. Are we addicted to it? If you think social media is dragging you down, it probably is. So why is it so hard to quit?
For me personally, I live for relating to people and social media allows me to falsely feel as if I’m doing that. The fact is I probably have more in common with those around me than with those thousands of miles away. I don’t know how it evolved. But, I felt my crowd was overseas. Maybe I do know, it was just easier. I wanted a crowd and I found acceptance. I’m starting to realize, those are not the same things.
IF you are an indie artist, I encourage you to make your own rules and do what’s right for you. You may end up making your own sandwiches, but who says that’s bad when you have your own peace of mind? K
